Why Are You Here?

A real, raw reflection on life’s biggest question

Wherever you are right now — walking, sitting, or lying awake late at night — I want to invite you to pause with me.

Because today, I want to ask you something.
A question that, deep down, you’ve probably carried for a long time, even if you’ve never said it out loud.

It’s one of the oldest, most universal questions a human being can ask:

Why Are You Here?

It’s a question that can stop you mid-stride.
Not because you don’t know the answer —
but because you’ve never really dared to ask it.

Why are you here?
Not why you’re at your job or why you live in your city.
Not why you picked this career, this family, or this path.

Why are you here — on this planet, in this time, living this one life?

It’s the kind of question we usually avoid until life shakes us awake:
a job loss, a death, a milestone birthday,
or just one of those long, restless nights when you wonder what any of this is for.

But here’s the truth:
The question matters.
And the asking matters even more.

You’re Here to Experience Living

Not just to exist.
Not just to tick boxes.
Not just to survive Monday through Friday and collapse into the weekend.

You are here to live.
To taste it.
To get bruised by it, healed by it, delighted by it, and undone by it.

There’s an Aboriginal proverb that says:

“We are all visitors to this time, this place. We are just passing through. Our purpose here is to observe, to learn, to grow, to love… and then we return home.”

You are not here to be perfect.
You are here to participate.

What Does That Look Like?

It looks like finding something — anything — that lights you up,
something you can pour your heart and talent into.
Something that allows you to say, “I was here, and I created this.”

It looks like opening yourself to love —
not just the safe, polished kind,
but the messy, vulnerable, courageous kind
that risks heartbreak and still gets back up when things fall apart.

It looks like failing — yes, failing —
because if you’re not failing, you’re not stretching.
You’re not daring enough to test your own edges
or discover what you’re really capable of.

It looks like showing up for the ordinary and extraordinary moments,
letting them shape you, break you open,
and remind you:
You are the author of this one wild story called your life.

But Don’t Take It All Too Seriously

Here’s the kicker.
One day, it all ends.

That’s not morbid — it’s motivating.

In a hundred years, most of us will be forgotten.
Our names will fade.
Our work might gather dust.

But the experience? That’s yours. That’s now.

So no, you don’t have to be important.
You don’t have to be famous.
You don’t have to have it all figured out by 30 — or ever.

You just have to ask yourself, honestly:

What do I want to experience while I’m here?

Remember This

You are not here to impress.
You are not here to perform.

You are here to feel alive.

So build something.
Burn for something.
Laugh until your ribs ache.
Take risks that make your voice shake.

You are here to live a story you’ll be proud to have lived —
not for legacy,
but for the experience of being that person while you are here.

Because that’s what this is:
A short visit.
An experience.
A story you get to write.

So Why Are You Here?

Maybe it’s time to find out —
not by thinking about it,
but by living it.
